J.F.M. "Captain Frank" Hanson's Gravesite Cross Plains Missionary Baptist Church Old Driver Road, Carroll County, Georgia |
James Francis Marion Hanson (1842-1905), was one of five sons of Reuben C. and Margaret Peggy Jones Hanson to serve in the Confederate military during the Civil War. J.F.M. was known as "Captain Frank", but his service record gives no hint to how he acquired his nickname. Captain Frank, in fact, enlisted as a Private in Company F of the Georgia 7th Infantry in 1861 and was elected 1st Sergeant in 1863. Further research solved the nickname mystery; but, more on that later. For now, let's look further at Company F.
